Vanessa CarltonCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Pop Status:Most recent release, Love Is An Art (2020) See also:Vanessa Carlton's site Comparisons:Vocally a little like Christine Fellows, musically very different, though Covers/own material:Own and occasional covers General comments:Those who have a greater tolerance of pop than some ectophiles might want to check out Vanessa Carlton. We caught her video for "A Thousand Miles". It's very mainstream pop, catchy, clichéd, and a nicely constructed song. She has a really catchy piano riff as the main musical theme of the song. Her voice is sounds really young though not quite babyish. Recommended first album:Be not Nobody Recordings:
Be not NobodyRelease info:2002—A&M Availability:Wide Ecto priority:Recommended for fans of piano pop Group members:Vanessa Carlton—piano, vocals Guest artists:Abe Laboriel, Jr.— drums Produced by:Ron Fair Comments:This album didn't stick with me, but I still like "A Thousand Miles" and her cover of the Stones' "Paint It Black" shows that she could really rock tough if she wanted to.
