Eliza Carthy & Nancy KerrCountry of origin:England Type of music generally:Traditional folk Status:Final album as a duo On Reflection (compilation, 2002); final release of all-new material, shape of scrape (1995) See also:Eliza Carthy's site Comparisons:Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick, Silly Sisters (though have a lot of instrumentals) Covers/own material:Traditional British folk General comments:Eliza Carthy is Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson's daughter, and is part of their Waterson:Carthy trio recording. Enjoyable lively, traditional folk music. Overall, I think I prefer Eliza Carthy's later work, but there is much to enjoy in their two albums for those who like stripped-down traditional music. I especially like songs like "I Know My Love" which show off how well their voices work together. Good renditions of traditional folksongs and lively reels. I prefer Eliza Carthy's other work better, though. (Neile) |
