Sandy FrazierCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Ethereal, art-rock Status:Most recent release, Painting Music (2015) See also:Sandy Frazier's site Comparisons:Her voice reminds me of SOMEONE i just can't put my finger on it. Of course there's the Kate Bush comparison but they aren't alike that much. (RocketsTail@aol.com) Covers/own material:Own and cowritten material General comments:I first heard of Sandy when she joined a Kate Bush mailing list I was a member of, she made an entrance that definitely made me want to check out her music...out of curiosity alone. Not only because of my schedule but because the music is just so layered and tough to bite into. On first listen I really wasn't impressed by what I was hearing and dismissed it as an "artsy" record that was too polished and just plain weird. I've given it a few more chances over these weeks and I'm beginning to pinpoint little things that I really like about Sandy Frazier's style. But it does take a long time for this music to seep into your brain. Her songwriting is fresh and her voice is something I haven't heard in awhile...the bad thing is Frazier doesn't focus enough on these two pluses. The focus of this album seems to be more concerned with making the music and melodies as weird and complicated as possible, hence hiding the actual song underneath layers of waves and electronic noise. Simple songs like "On a Journey to the End" is a perfect piece of ethereal music, it's just Sandy and a light piano in the background (for the most part)...this song is definitely my favorite just because her voice was THERE. I'm very happy to have found Sandy Frazier's music because I definitely think there's going to be great things from her! This debut is maybe too experimental for a newcomer trying to get noticed but it shows she's willing to do what SHE wants in her music. "Silence is the healer" is an up-tempo song with gorgeous vocals. Frazier sets the tone for the album well here. "A very private person" is a song with a bluesy feel and Frazier has a feral slant to her vocals that sounds good here. "My New York Mood" is a soft, very appealing song with lovely vocals that shows off her style well. It's a lovely album all told.
