Gogh Van GoCountry of origin:Canada Type of music generally:Pop/Rock Status:Most recent album, Bliss Station (1997) See also:Wikipedia's page on Gogh Van Go Comparisons:10,000 Maniacs, Innocence Mission Covers/own material:Mostly own General comments:Solid '90s pop music with an interesting edge. This isn't one of the multitude of bands named Go Van Gogh, but is a Montreal duo with a great pop sensibility. Sandra Luciantonio's voice reminds me just a little of Katell Keineg, Natalie Merchant, and Mary Ramsey (of 10,000 Maniacs and previously John and Mary). Dan Tierney writes most of the tunes and is an excellent pop tunester. (Neile) Recommended first album:Gogh Van Go Recordings:
Gogh Van GoRelease info:1993—Audiogram—AD CD 10058 Availability:Disc stores in Canada Ecto priority:Highly recommended for fans of 90s pop Group members:Sandra Luciantonio—vocals Guest artists:John Souranis—bass guitar, guitars Produced by:Pierre Marchand Comments:Some wonderfully ethereal songs, some sweet songs—this is pop compared to a lot of ecto, but much more interesting than the non-ecto mainstream. Their one cover on this collection is Lennon's "Instant Karma". "Call it romance" in particular is a great song, and the rest of the album is consistently good—from the first song, "Bed where we hide" to the last, the poignant "Kiss the ground" you know you're in the hands of great popsters. (Neile) Bliss StationRelease info:1999—Audiogram—ADCD 10099 Availability:Available in Canada Ecto priority:Recommended for pop fans Group members:Sandra Luciantonio—vocals Guest artists:Yves Desrosiers—guitars Produced by:Dan Tierney Comments:Heavier—or at least a little less frothy—than their debut recording, this is still pretty infectious.
