The Ectophiles' Guide's entry for Furslide, Jennifer Turner's previous band

Comparisons:

Sound is unique, though somewhat like other lo-fi experimental indie artists, Tara Jane O'Neil, Shannon Wright

Covers/own material:

Own

General comments:

Jennifer Turner is known for playing on Natalie Merchant's Tigerlily, then for her band Furslide, which she dissolved to do this amazing indie project, inner. Do NOT take her work with Natalie Merchant as any indication of what inner sounds like. This is immediate, edgy, rough-hewn yet beautiful work. None of the rough parts are filed off, which gives the work a strange vibrancy. This work may not be for everyone, but I adore it. (Neile)

Inner is actually Jennifer Turner, the guitarist who played on Natalie Merchant's Tigerlily, among others. If this is the person responsible for that beautiful, haunting guitar on 'I might know the word', then I like it already. Though if the samples are representative of the album, it sounds more like PJ Harvey than Natalie Merchant :) (afries@zip.com.au)

Comments:

Not quite as immediately catchy as lovetheonlyway, I still really enjoy this collection of songs. Jennifer Turner can do amazing things within the constriction/freedom of "first take goes" and that sense of exploration makes the songs come alive. It's a wonder. (Neile)

Comments:

I'm totally in love with this album. It's quirky but catchy, gravelly but melodic. I've never quite heard anything like it, and I'd love to hear more. Parts of it remind me a tiny bit of Robert Fripp's Exposure. I play this often and highly recommend it for anyone interested in something out of the ordinary. It definitely has PJ Harvey's uncompromising spirit. There are several softer/broken-feeling songs than Harvey would ever do [note: this comment was written before PJ Harvey's White Chalk]: "broken and genuine" as Joe says, describes it well. (Neile)

This record is quite crunchy, however. Not much resemblance to Natalie Merchant at all. Good stuff... (afries@zip.com.au)

I love it. It's one of those discs with a sound you can't quite describe and a range of styles and moods. Not a good description, but I recommend trying out sound samples for a taste. (JoAnn Whetsell)
