General comments:

Oy (Joy Frempong) is a singular talent. Experimental and out there and yet playful; and can be sonicly weird and brightly melodic. Her music draws from all kinds of styles from hip hop to jazz and blues and experimental pop. (Neile)

Comments:

This is an album of songs and tunes inspired by childhood memories, full of strangeness and delight. Apparently Joy Frempong asked friends for memories from their childhood, and from them she produced this album of songs about monsters under the bed, and weird games children play, walking on cracks, how they understand the world and how things work (there's a direct but funny song about childhood experimentation with sex). The title track is about being afraid of people lurking around corners so the child would box around corners before walking around them. The songs are equally odd and wonderful. Highly recommended for anyone interested in experimental (but mostly melodic) music. I love this. (Neile)
