Comments:

The CD is fantastic. I must admit that I've never been that crazy about "Feed the Fire"; it's one of my least favorite tunes on Warpaint. But the acoustic tribute version is phenomenal. "Save Our Souls" is going to take some getting used to. "Ashes to Ashes" is great. (burka@jeffrey.net)

It goes without saying that I like it, or actually the 3 songs that are "new". (My God, I'm beginning to sound like a rabid gaffan). I REALLY like "Ashes to Ashes". The line "I'm happy, hope you're happy too" takes on particular significance. Too bad there are no printed lyrics, it would have been interesting to see if the "h" in "I'm happy" was capitalized. (-: This song is exactly the type of thing that the alternative stations seem to be going for lately. Acoustic (or softer) covers of a song originally done by males done over by females. (The Sundays)' "Wild Horses", the Cowboy Junkies' "Sweet Jane", and Tori Amos's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" immediately come to mind. I think that I like the acoustic version of "Save our Souls" better than the Equipoise version. It seems more poignant. "I Say" sounds different than the version on Equipoise. Is this remixed? The intro drums sound more prominent or something. I'll have to check against the other original.
I'm a little surprised about the overall tone of the CD. It seems very, well...folky. If somebody's only exposure to Happy was via this CD, their opinion would be very different than if they had first heard Warpaint or Equipoise. It reminds me more of Rhodes I than her later stuff, probably because of the predominance of acoustic songs. (ksilver@engr.startek.com)

I have to comment on the amazing covers of 'Ashes to Ashes' and 'Feed the Fire'. (kyrlidis@templeton.cchem.berkeley.edu)

Hold Me (aka "Glory promo")

Release info:

1995—Aural Gratification—AGCD4022 [CD]

Availability:

Radio promotion disk, not commercially available, and now out-of-print

Ecto priority:

Low. "Hold Me" is straight from Building The Colossus, and the version of "Look For The Child" is the same as the one later released on The Keep. The other two tracks are only available on this disc, however the radio edit of "Glory" isn't a great deal different to the album cut, and there is an acoustic version of "Collective Heart" on The Keep. Comments:

"hold me": well, no big surprises here. the album version. an excellent song, of course :) "glory (radio mix)": hmmm...more or less what i expected; "glory" without the length. a few interesting changes though. "collective heart" and "look for the child" (acoustic versions): ok, here's what makes the thing worth the price tag :) these two just happen to be probably my single favourite songs off their respective albums, so i'm pleased to see them here. i think i like the original versions best (i guess i am somewhat more partial to electronic-ey music than pure acoustic), but nonetheless, these are wonderful! somehow happy's voice comes more into the foreground in these versions, and it's lovely to hear some of her vocal harmonies up front. yay! glad i got a copy! (damon)

I must say the acoustic version of "Collective Heart" is quite impressive. "Look For The Child" isn't the version she did on WFUV, it turns out—I think I like it better with more instrumentation. (meth@smoe.org)
