This is a volume entirely of her own compositions.It's a very stripped-down album with just Kate Schutt and her trusty guitar. She rants fiercely like Ani Difranco can do sometimes, but also makes valid points. Some of the songs tend to go on a bit, but mostly Schutt engages the listener.
"Calperina" describes some disturbing real-life events in a gripping way. The closing "Turning" doesn't paint a pretty picture of love and is all the better for it. (stjarnell@yahoo.com)

Comments:
A mixture of covers and her own material.Schutt's version of Janet Jackson's "Miss You Much" leaves the original for dead. Schutt has more soul than Ms. Jackson.
I doubt the world needs another version of "Over the Rainbow" but this one is quite good. "Autumn Leaves" gets a courageous reading.
"Lost You" is very affecting. George Michael's "Father Figure" gets covered in an original way. Schutt's smoky voice suits it just fine.
It's a very likeable album and has a suitably wigged-out track that is hidden at the end. It feels very personal despite being mostly covers too. (stjarnell@yahoo.com)
