Sheryl SkyeCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Poppy contemporary folk/folk/rock with jazzy touches Status:Most recent release, ripple (1999) See also:AllMusic's page for Sheryl Skye Comparisons:She has been described as a mix of Diane Schuur and Dusty Springfield Covers/own material:Own General comments:Rich-voiced and straightforward, Sheryl Skye belts out her jazzy pop/rock songs, sounding as though she has to hold herself back from screaming it out. Her voice really does sound like she's constantly reining it in. Her songwriting is in the contemporary folk line and seems pretty solid. One of the nicest aspects of her sound are the jazzy touches—a bit of piano here, saxophone there. (sophiagurley@hotmail.com) Recommended first album:ripple is the first we've heard Recordings:
