ana voogCountry of origin:U.S. Type of music generally:Highly dancey electronic alternative pop/performance art Status:Most recent release, anavoog.com (1998) See also:Anacam—her webcam site (her music-focused anavoog.com site doesn't seem to be available any longer) Comparisons:Individual, but elements of her music are similar to Vanessa Daou, Laurie Anderson, Madonna Covers/own material:Own General comments:Ana Voog's current focus seems to be on the presentation of a public persona—a kind of performance art. This is apparent in her music, too, but it goes beyond the show into actual interesting music. I'm not a big electronic dance fan, but I still find Ana Woog's music worth a listen. (Neile) Recommended first album:anavoog.com is her debut Recordings:anavoog.com (1998) anavoog.comRelease info:1998—radioactive records—RAR3-90063 Availability:Wide in U.S. Ecto priority:Highly recommended for electronic pop fans Comments:Ana Voog is amazing and wonderful...I've had her CD anavoog.com since June of 1998, and I still listen to it a lot. It was in my top ten of 1998. In her own words, she makes "electronic pop, for lack of a better term," but that's kind of a bastardized way of putting it. Yes, there's programmed beats and thudding bass (ahhhhh...), but her lyrics are far better (original metaphors, by God!) than most other dance-type stuff...when I finally get around to doing drag, I'm definitely going to use at least three of the songs from the CD. She ranges from jazz to disco to ambient, and it's all equally good. Run, don't walk, to get this album. (John.Drummond) |
