Dark UndercoatRelease info:2008—Talitres (France)/2009—Important Records (USA) Availability:Wide Ecto priority:Highly recommended Group members:Emily Jane White Guest artists:John Coraouge—bass (1, 2, 7) Comments:When people recommended Emily Jane White I went and listened to her MySpace samples and said, yeah, right, Cat Power. But oddly enough I kept listening to those samples enough that I said "yes, I understand why they liked her enough to recommend her—I have to buy that album", so I did, and now the songs are stuck in my head. Victorian AmericaRelease info:2009—Milan Availability:Wide Ecto priority:Recommended Group members:Emily Jane White—vocals, guitar, piano, organ, percussion Guest artists:Jen Grady—cello, vocals Produced by:Emily Jane White and Wainwright Hewlett Comments:Sadly, this album is a touch disappointing after the wonderful Dark Undercoat. It's still a good album and quite likeable. It has a nice flow and sounds quite lovely, so it's hard to pin down exactly why for me it doesn't work. It just doesn't have the emotional punch or stand-out tracks as her debut for me. (Neile) |
